Rainy days and Fridays

Original post:  Jun 7, 2013

Here in Mansfield, we are preparing to receive torrential rain. Thanks to Tropical Storm Andrea, the skies are already darkening. The drizzle from earlier this morning is slowly picking up steam. On days like today, it's easy to allow yourself to let the weather dampen your mood.

Rain is often used as a metaphor for struggles in our own lives. Our own work lives are certainly tempestuous. We often have storms raging--at times, it may appear as if we live under a black cloud! While we are being drenched, it's difficult to keep our spirits high.

In my own life, I find that it helps to focus on the solutions instead of the problem. There is usually a way out. It isn't always easy, but there is generally some way to make things better. Maybe it's not by much, but there is usually some way. I also find that after a storm has passed, there is a quiet and a calm stillness in the air that can be quite refreshing. That brief space after the chaos also can bring rainbows. I suppose you could say that without all that passed before, you wouldn't have that tranquility.
